Shedding light on the discrimination against working class immigrants within the naturalization process, the intent behind the project is for viewers and/or users of different backgrounds to experience the content differently. In other words, for existing American citizens to acknowledge their privileges.
The process is also time-consuming, often taking months or even years to complete. Immigrants must pass a civics and English language test, posing challenges for those with limited English proficiency and access to resources. The breadth of knowledge required for the civics test can be daunting, even for native-born Americans. These factors, coupled with the demands of work and family, create significant barriers to citizenship for working-class immigrants, highlighting the need for reforms to make the process more accessible and equitable.
In this project, my aim was to have its interactivity mimic the challenging journey of the naturalization process while also raising awareness about the complexities of naturalization. Additionally, I sought to offer solace and support to those currently undergoing the test, potentially letting them know what would have to be prepared.
